A Spoonful Of Sugar Helps The Medicine Go Down

I was talking to one of my friends yesterday (a really lovely person) and he told me that he finds it really bizarre how I’ll compliment people all of the time or say nice things to people, unprompted. He said it’s really nice, but there’s no way he would ever do that himself.

When I asked why, he said because people will wonder why he’s said it, wonder what he would want in return, even though he doesn’t want anything. He said he would worry about what they would think about him. Like he was a deviant or something for saying such things.

How sad. A really lovely person genuinely thinks they cannot do or say something nice for or to someone else in this day and age… for fear they would think he had an ulterior motive.

I told him it doesn’t matter what people think- you do your good deed, you give someone a compliment, try to brighten up someone else’s day. You know in your heart that it comes from a good place. If other people take you actions to a dark place, that says more about them than it does about you. Be free, be kind, be positive and be bright!

If you spy a little something that you think someone you know may like ( and provided you can afford it) be it a packet of sweets, a sticker or a flower… take the plunge and treat them! Give little surprises, give compliments, give away a smile and a kind word. It may not put an extra penny in your pocket, but you will certainly be richer for it!

Can you imagine how good you would feel if you woke up to a little nice surprise- someone had thought of you and gone to the effort to try and make you smile. How good you would feel if you were greeted by smile after smile on your way to work from strangers and friends alike. How good you would feel if someone had a coffee ready and waiting for you, a compliment on their lips and a warm embrace up wrap you up in… AND you were safe in the knowledge that they wanted nothing ion return, other than to be your friend and ensure your happiness

Make that happen for the people around you! After all, what goes around, comes around. You would be surprised at how many bright smiles you get in return for your own.

I know I’m preaching to the converted, you are all bloody wonderful people  you already set the examples for me to follow, you are THE BEST!

With much love,
